Dr. Cohen has been in the health care field for more than 35 years. She specializes in counseling and psychotherapy for children and adolescents. In addition, if your child is struggling with ADD/ADHD and you’re looking for an alternative to Ritalin or other stimulant medications, EEG Biofeedback (neurotherapy) may be the answer. Dr. Cohen also specializes in treating children with these disorders, as well as those with various learning disabilities. This revolutionary, non-medication treatment is a form of operant conditioning where kids use a computer software program that provides “rewards” for focusing and concentrating in such a way as to produce brain waves necessary for normal cognitive functions. The child learns to reduce slow (theta) brain waves and increase fast (beta) brain waves by viewing puzzles and games on a computer. The effects of Ritalin are short term and can cause side effects whereas neurotherapy results are permanent with no known side effects. Many behavior problems seen with ADD/ADHD disappear with this treatment and the child’s overall ability to control his/her own behavior significantly improves. Dr. Cohen and special education professionals work directly with you, your child and teachers as part of an individualized program. This proven treatment is for ages 5-adult and includes parenting strategies, family counseling, individual therapy, educational planning and tutoring. Call for more information.
